If you want to apply for a permanent resident visa by joining your married spouse or de facto partner who is an Australian, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, you might consider Partner Visa (Subclasses 309 and 100) (if you apply outside Australia).

 

What can you do with this visa?

 

With a Subclass 309 Partner (Provisional) visa, you can:

  • live, work and study in Australia while we process your permanent partner (migrant) visa

  • travel to and from Australia as many times as you want

  • attend free English language classes provided by the Adult Migrant English Program if you are eligible

With a Subclass 100 Partner (Migrant) visa, you can:

  • live, work and study in Australia indefinitely

  • sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia

  • apply for Australian citizenship if eligible

Key eligibility criteria:

For Subclass 309 Partner (Provisional) visa, you must:

  • be in a genuine relationship with your spouse or de facto partner who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen

  • be outside Australia when you apply for this visa

 

For Subclass 100 partner (migrant) visa, you must:

  • in most cases, hold a temporary partner (Provisional) visa (subclass 309)

  • In most cases, continue to be in a genuine and ongoing relationship with your partner

With a Subclass 820 Partner visa (temporary), you can:

  • live, work and study in Australia while we process your permanent partner (migrant) visa

  • travel to and from Australia as many times as you want

With a Subclass 801 Partner visa (Permanent), you can:
